Come along to the Swan Barracks, where the party gets underway at 6am and goes till whenever you do! There will be heaps of chillout space, beanbags, mattresses and comfy stuff for you to enjoy. Don't worry there will be a few quiet corners supplied in case everything becomes a little too much! We will also be getting some chill out tents, video games and heaps more things for you to do when you are feeling a little worse for wear...So be there with your mates, sleeping bags, pillows, deck chairs, car seats or whatever else you need in order to make yourself comfortable and come down and have a laugh. This is a fully secured event. Rowdiness will NOT be tolerated - bring your hat + sunscreen!"
What New Year's Day is all about really - stuffing around, having a laff and kicking back....We got back there about 8am I think to find the few people outside in the sun being moved inside to the one indoor arena...interesting mix of music...even some Vanilla Ice whilst we were there. Hope more people turned up after weleft in search of bottleshops. Swan Barracks, Northbridge was the venue for this free all ages event - the first one for the new year. [ Trilogy Pt.3 ]
-== Trilogy Pt.3 : [Fri 4th Jan 2002] ==-

Main Room DJ's :- DJ Trace (UK), MK1 (UK), Frantik, Muller, El Hornet, Greg Packer, Adrian Sardi.
Cave Space DJ's :- Muller, El Hornet, Viper, Adrian Sardi, Devo vs Dart, Clay.
MC's :- J Rippa, Assassin, and X-sessiv.

The Drum Club, ATM and Drum & Bass Arena presented this very special Drum'n'Bass club event. This gig was (technically) only available to those who purchased the 'Drum Club Trilogy pack' tickets. There were only 400 tickets available for Trace (although from the crowd I heard was there - more turned up again), so there wouldn't have been many left for sale on the door to say the least. This party also featured another special guest, MK1 (who is here on an extended holiday) from UK Drum and Bass Magazine 'ATM'.
Trace is certainly someone I and a lot of others have always been waiting eagerly to see here - I ended up NOt getting there...don't ask - I'm in mourning!
I think Mental probably described it as well as I've heard so far - "It was well packed...not too many usual faces though - Trace played just as wickedly as he used to...just the tunes had been updated"....nice one mate.
Drum Club, Northbridge was the venue for this very crowded 18+ event. Anyone else?

[ BassSession ]
-== BassSession vs 33+1/3 : [Sat 12th Jan 02] ==-

Main Room DJ's :- BJam (10-11pm), Diamond D (11-12am), Ink vs Loxy (UK 12-3am), Bad Company (UK 3-6am).
MC's :- Assassin, J Rippa, Rufkut, X-Sessiv.
Upstairs 33+1/3 DJ's :- Dirty White Boys (10-11.30pm), Smoulder (11.30-1am), Aston Harvey (UK Freestylers 1-4am), Echoic (4am-close).

Loaded Dice presented this big Drum'n'Bass event.
Ink and Loxy - "Loxy Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Cyclon, Outbreak Records, Architecture). Ink (Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Cyclon, Outbreak, Architecture, Basement, Nx Beat and LTJ Bukems Good Looking Label). Both Ink and Loxy have their own labels, Ink - Architecture and NX Beat, Loxy - Cyclon and X-Factor (soon to be releasing more absolute dancefloor killaz with their unique dark funk and awesome breaks. Both are also about to have new releases on Metalheadz. Loxy and Ink have played in Perth twice before playing successful parties on their own, then as part of 'Science Fiction' last year".
Bad Company - "There will be two artists from the group of four in Bad Company aka BC Recordings Maldini and D-Bridge. Bad Company have released more drum'n'bass hits than any other crew in the time they have been together. They hold claim to best new label, single, album etc. and as well as their own label have released for other labels such as Virus, Renegade Hardware, Prototype, 31 Records and more. This will be Bad Company's second visit to Perth, their last visit selling out at Zanadu Nightclub in 2000".

Man there was some hard/dark + wicked '93 sounding stuff played by the visitors this night. A very big crowd (talk of presale sellout) lined up to get in here. Lots of faces I hadn't seen out in ages. We got there at 12 and by the time we got in, Ink + Loxy were just going on. For me they played the better set - more fresh tunes + jeez there were some stormers in there. The MC's did a wicked job...Ink cutting the music out for the last of Assassin's rhyme one time...so they appreciated it too - respect to those boys bigtime. Apparently taped as well...we can only hope what a good night. Globe Nightclub, Perth was the venue for this excellent 18+ event.

[ Fundamental 2 ]
-== Fundamental 2 : [Sat 19th Jan 02] ==-

DJ's :- Trent C (2step/Garage), Miss Elle J vs Design (2step/Garage), Greg Packer (95/96 Jungle), Heretik (D'n'B), Darren J (UK) + MK1 (playing for Digital), Dan Lucas vs Frantik (96/97 Jungle mash up), Rufkut vs El Hornet.
MC's :- Assassin, JRippa, Rufkut, X-sessiv.

MFi presented this special Jungle/Drum'n'Bass event in the tradition of the Scitech and FunFactory gigs. Was to be featuring Digital (aka 25yr-old Steve Carr) - "He started playing Reggae and then progressed into dark breakbeat Hardcore with the start of Rave. Through this scene he became friends with other local Ipswich lads Danny C and Photek. He started producing music around this time and had his first release on 'Timeless Recordings' with a track called 'Touch Me'. In 1994 Doc Scott dropped his track 'Down Under' @ the Speed night and Goldie signed Digital to the MetalHeadz camp. He has released on labels such as '31 Records', 'Function', 'Chronic' and his own excellent 'Phantom Audio' label". Darren J (UK) + MK1 (UK/ATM mag) filled in for Digital - not sure why he couldn't make it. We got there towards the end of Heretik's set...and I have to say while we were there it was nice hard D'n'B with a lot of well known crowd favourites thrown in. One problem for a while was the sound system distorting very badly and also some idiots let of a can of pepper spray that cleared 90% of the venue for a while near the end of Darren J's set. Nice one guys...deliberate or accidental that really stuffed things up for a while. One laugh was the bungee jump in the courtyard which kept people entertained watching those brave enough to have a go bounce up to two storeys high (nice one Weavy!). Dinosaur Jims Fun Centre, Joondalup was the initial venue for this very crowded all ages event, which was then moved to the Swan Barracks in Northbridge apparently due to last-minute council nazi tactics on Friday. Glad to see the boys still pulled it off.

-== DJ Heaven : [Sat 19th Jan 02] ==-

DJ's :- Chad D (10-11:30pm), Warren 10 (11.30-1am), DJ Heaven (UK 1-4:30am), Troy vs. MrW (4:30am-close).

Delirium + Technique presented this special club night, featuring the return to Perth of UK club diva DJ Heaven. "Prepare for a special 3hr set of Trance and uplifting House tunes. DJ Heaven has become one of the top female DJ's in the world today. She is about to start a monthly residency in New York at the famed 'Limelight'. Heaven discovered her love of clubs and house music whilst living in Birmingham, UK. As the music became an obsession she realised she was buying many of the tracks she later heard rocking the clubs she was going to. Those dance floors were at some of the UK's most groundbreaking nights around. After polishing her turntable skills, she secured her first residency at 'FUN' - a high calibre night in Birmingham. After a very successful season in Ibiza, Heaven set her sights to the top and decided to move to London, sending a tape to the world famous Ministry of Sound. The Friday night promoter heard it and promptly invited her to spin. They were taken back not only by her ability to move the crowd with her flawless set of energetic House but also with her driving enthusiasm which equally shook the clubbers as she danced around behind the decks. Offers of a residency soon followed, at 'Frisky', the Ministry's highly successful Fri night. As the main resident Heaven’s career catapulted off in a new direction, which includes 2 front covers of DJ Magazine, one of five DJs tipped for the top in Mixmag and DJ of the month in Muzik magazine. Internationally, she has since gone on to become the first female DJ to perform in places such as the Philippines and Malaysia. She has successfully completed sellout tours of Japan, Australia, South America, Europe and has had a guest spot at Erik Morillo's highly acclaimed 'Subliminal' party in New York. Recently Heaven has been invited to speak at the New Music West music convention in Canada (alongside the legendary Lemmy from Motorhead!) + DJ alongside RUN DMC. Also a performance in Brussels to 8000 sponsored by MTV was broadcast throughout Europe. After three amazing tours of Australia her first mix CD sold over 20,000 copies with follow-ups planned for the near future".
Big one always for the House crew this, she is a very energetic DJ and really tries to give her crowd something more - often works so well too.

Globe Nightclub, Perth was the venue for this 18+ event. Anyone?

Apparently this is on the Friday instead of the holiday Monday due to it being the only night Jamiroquai was available...hmmm dammit like most poor people stuck @ work all day I missed it - got offered to be on tha crew too.

Belvoir Ampitheatre was the venue for this huge 18+ event. Anyone please?

"The line up comprises of Diverse up-N-coming Turntable Technicians, who will keep you on par with the sounds from Belvoir Ampitheatre. There will be a special chilled area for those who just wanna lounge, after a hard day of dancing". More info at the RawPlanetRecordings website. -== SkyShow @ The Rosemount : [Sat 26th Jan 02] ==-

Lounge Bar DJ's - Dair, Pace, Symphony, Pete (B'day boy), Marvel B2B Rousa.
Beer Garden DJ's :- Trent_C, Hilton Shaw, The Management, Versetyle, Rufkut, Frantik.
MC's :- Pete (21st birthday boy too!), plus probably some more drunken yobs as usual!

Resistance presented this great night, an Australia Day special. As usual - "A weekly Saturday night consisting of Perth's most energetic DJ's playing the finest selection of New Skool Breaks, Old Skool, Freeform and Hardcore.". Well Mental + I got there pretty early and after only a short time, we (and most of the people there) were 'avin it large. Have to say the best way I've spent the Skyshow for years...getting pints in without the hassle of dodging cops for streetdrinking on a National Holiday (booooo!). Well wicked time and nice to see Pete gettin' stuck in as well!

Rosemount Hotel, North Perth was the venue for this free 18+ event.

[ Dekwrekka ]
-== Dekwrekka : [Sat 26th Jan 02] ==-

DJ's :- Andrew Innes (NZ), DJ Mesh (FRF Switzerland), Freestyle, Weavy, El Hornet, Krank, Direct-X, Lumberjack, Pace, Versetyle.

MC's :- Assassin, Pete.

XS Productions presented this Australia Day weekend event, featuring Andrew Innes from 'Fevah' crew in New Zealand - "An extraordinarily talented and banging Hard House/NRG DJ. Andrew is a Fevah Resident in NZ, he has also toured America and England. Now it is Perth's turn to experience his magic.
DJ Mesh (FRF Switzerland) - Known as the Swiss Drum 'n' Bass scratchmaster. Mesh has played at many of Europe's big festivals alongside acts such as the Prodigy and Asian Dub Foundation. He's armed with fresh plates ready to itch it up.
'Dekwrekka - Term used to describe a person who displays unbelievably extreme mixing ability on the turntables'...Come + join our team of fully qualified Dekwrekka's immediately after the Sky Show, as we take things apart!".
We got there after boozing it up finestyle @ the Rosemount + to be honest spent a fair time outside wading through our carton early on! A pretty decent-sized crowd was there but possibly the lineup didn't flow as well as it could've, judging by comments. Mesh was a really nice guy but I thought hsi recent set a the Hyde Park a lot better. A good fun mid-sized event overall.

The XS Sanctuary (the same venue used for Ravenstein and Into the Void) was the venue for this all ages event with a 15+ recommendation.

-== Rennie Pilgrem : [Sat 2nd Feb 02] ==-

DJ's :- Rennie Pilgrem (UK), FMT, Bilsby, Tone, Gully.

This special club event is presented by Ambar and Backbeat, featuring the 'God father of Breakbeat' (well one of the big players tha in scene anyhow), a rare treat, these days a big name in the Big/Nu Beat scene and in the past, part of 'Rhythm Section' with Ellis Dee & Ritchie T - a group responsible for some classic hardcore releases from '91-'96. He also has many releases with just Ritchie T, varying from bangin breakbeat through to Big Beat, also releasing under the names Thursday Club, Bionic Dog, Silicon Valley Def Stars, Philadelphia Bluntz, Nu Electro Sound of London...or just plain Rennie Pilgrem. Personally tha lineup could do with some original breaks crew in there for someone of such scene importance - Echoic, Greg Packer etc...ah well. "Rennie Pilgrem is widely acknowledged as one of the key players on the Breakbeat scene. His recording career started in earnest as part of 'Rhythm Section', and was responsible for seminal hardcore tracks such as 'Comin On Strong', which stayed in the official dance chart for 18 months. Nowadays Rennie is one half of the 'Philadelphia Bluntz' duo".
This would've been well-worth checking out, Pilgrem rips it up with tha best of em. We'd hoped to get in but the bird on tha door wouldn't negotiate a price for ten of us...ah well what can you do, they missed out and so did we...sigh.

Ambar (old Edge) downstairs Murray St Perth was the venue for this 18+ event. Anyone?

Loaded Dice DnB Space DJ's :- Dart (10-11pm), Greg Packer (11-12am), Dom and Roland (UK 12-2am), The Usual Suspects (UK 2-5am), Diamond D (5-6am).
33 and 1/3 Breaks Space DJ's :- Dirty White Boys (10-11:30pm), Echoic (11:30-1am), Deekline (UK 1-4am), Smoulder (4-close).
MC's :- Assassin, X-Sessiv.

Presented by Loaded Dice, Hype and Delirium, this event, another in the series of big club nights, mixing Breaks w/Drum'n'Bass.
DJ Deekline :- "Nick Annand aka DJ Deekline is one of 'Botchit Breaks' foremost recording artists. Having released numerous singles through B.Breaks, as well as appearing on the last two B.Breaks compilation releases, Deekline has secured an active and recognised profile within the Botchit stable. Nick also runs a breakbeat club night once a month at the Gass Club in London called ‘Beatfreaks’ which has played to host to a plethora of the UK’s most recognised breaks personalities. His latest collaborative single release with label honcho Freq Nasty ‘Every Posse and Crew’ has been worked on dance floors world wide and appeared on Mixmag’s ‘Elastic Breaks’ compilation release. Deekline also manages two of his own labels independent of his work on Botchit, with his last single release through his two step breaks label ‘Rat Records’ entitled ‘I Don’t Smoke’ selling a staggering 15,000 copies on white label in the UK alone. His sound comprises rigid breakbeats rolling along at about 130bpm and dubby electro basslines. At its best (his remix of ODB's "Got Your Money") it is aggressively soulful with expertly sequenced vocal tracks and crackling, driving basslines that sporadically dissolve into searing acid filtered bass".
Dom and Roland :- "Returning by popular demand after his last visit to Perth for M.O.Sound @ Belmont, Dom will be returning for more surprises and fresh dubs which will speak for themselves. If you missed him at Ministry don't miss this next appearance".
"The Usual Suspects consists of three members; Chris, Keaton and Carl. Both Chris + Keaton have been DJing for 10 years, with Carl remaining exclusively on production duties. From the first big tune 'Killa Bees' on Renegade hardware, their style, with influences from Techno, Hip-Hop and Old School Hardcore/DnB, sees them with their debut release for 'Metalheadz' and Doc Scott's 31 Records in 2002. All members of the group also have other side projects, like Keaton starting the 'Universal Project' and also as part of 'The Four Horsemen' with Loxy, Dylan and Ink. Chris has a new label entitled 'Vicious Circle' with forthcoming releases 'Species' and '2410'. Carl is also producing breaks under the name 'Two Sinners' with releases on TCR and Botchit and Scarper".
If the last one was anything to go by then you shouldn't have missed this one, not as big as the first it also wasn't quite up to the same standard. Don't get me wrong there were some great trax played, just nowhere near as tearin as Ink+Loxy etc last time...there were some sections of the internationals' sets which were flat and went nowhere - leaving the crowd waiting for the next track...shame. Ok night though.

Globe Nightclub, Murray St Perth was the venue for this 18+ event.

[Start Of An Era]
-== Start Of An Era : [Fri 15th Feb 02] ==-

DJ's :- Splinke vs Corruption (9-10pm), Sniper (10-11pm), Rousa vs Marvel (11-12am), Pace vs Magnetic (12-1am) , Dair vs Leroy (1-2am), DJ Luna-C (UK 2-4am), Vertsetyle (4-5am), Fuxxy (5am-close).
MC's :- Assassin, Pete.

DJ Luna-C (aka Cru-l-t, Timespan, Psycangle, Eko etc as well as being a part of Future Primitive, 2 Croozin, The Trip + Xperience groups) has many releases since 1992 on UK labels such as KniteForce, Remix, Malice, KniteBreed Records etc) Elysium. He was also part of the crew (Smarte's) that produced the classic 'Sesames Treet' on Boogie Times/Suburban Base Records. This was his first (very overdue) visit to Perth...I've got quite a few tapes over the years of his and his sets are well good.
Ruff Knite Productions + Elysium presented this special Hardcore/Old School event. This should have been a lok bigger night...it still was a wicked one just not supported too well - shame. He started off his set with some very experimental upfront releases, which went down ok, into some quite bangin stuff, then into some rather (old) and well known classics. To be honest it sounded a little like he hadn't expected to play for so long rather than a mish-mash set. Good night though well done to Olly and tha boyz.

Elysium (Drum Club), Northbridge, was the venue for this 18+ event.

-== Inland Knights : [Fri 15th Feb 02] ==-

DJ's :- Inland Knights (UK), Chad D, MrW, Kriece, Declan, Ralphski and Dave Jackson.

Presented by the Yummy Crew and Movement. "Whilst at college in 1989 Laurence discovered the pleasures of acid house parties, as these parties progressed into Raves, he turned to the free party scene as a way to escape the corporate clutches of clubbing. The enjoyment people were having from the no frills attitude of free parties spurred Laurence (then a dj) and friends into starting the 'Smokescreen soundsystem' in '91, a collective of like-minded people who would set up their sound system in woodlands and many other sites surrounding Sheffield and the Midlands. As Smokescreen's reputation grew, known for their uncompromising Deep House soundtrack so the size of the parties swelled, as did their frequency-booming system. In 1994 they put on a party each week for a year. Forging links with similar collectives around the Midlands, Smokescreen relocated to Nottingham in '96, where the parties continued until the sound system was seized by the Police in 1999. Not before Smokescreen had managed to squeeze in a European tour!
Laurence formed a friendship with Andy Riley, also a dj, over the years at various parties. Andy was already recording as Toka Project with Steve Walker and had built up the To-ka studio with another friend Jason Cowley, Andy was to become a core member of smokescreen in 94. Laurence no stranger to a studio himself, joined forces with the To-ka studio with the aim of starting 'Drop', it wasn't long before Laurence and Andy were writing mostly together, and Inland Knights was formed for the first Drop release.
Intergroove Distro signed Drop Music late in 98 and guided the fledgling label through their 1st releases, as they grew so did Laurence's knowledge of the industry and how to run a label. Drop Music has grown from strength to strength with each release and as 'Inland Knights' Laurence and Andy have not looked back. Their collaborations under the I.Knights guise have found them favour with a number of top DJs and labels, with 20/20 Vision, Siesta, Aroma, NRK, DIY, LARGE and Panhandle Records all signing EPs. Djing has taken them far and wide with a tour of South Africa in 99, U.S.A in 2000 and regular dates across England. Drop Music is known by a variety of djs as a label to look out for because of the quality of music and the consistency of releases. Almost all Drop releases have four tracks, one of which will find its way into a Techno, House or Downtempo DJ's set".

MFi presented this special event. Well a rather crazy setup for this one - bouncy para-swings in the courtyard etc (Weavy just made everyone lose it when he went on) and bangin sound + lights in the main room. Was fair to say unfortunately a bit of an agro crowd here tonight...dunno why, the music and party itself where fine...just can't tell who turns up some nights I suppose can you? -== Wet 'n' Wild : [Sat 23rd Feb 02] ==-

DJ's :- Greg Packer, Freestyle vs Weavy, Dan Lucas, Muller, John Paul, El Hornet.

Presented by MFI at the Kalamunda Water Park, a party + venue featuring Speed slides, tubes, massive spas, huge grass area, pools, diving boards and hey most have been there.
From 11pm onwards, there is a free after party nearby featuring DJs Frantik, Concept, Rufkut and Ben Lucas. Certainly a very different venue - MFi do go out of their way to try variety, glad the council let this one go ahead.
There was apparently about a thousand people there, some have said there wasn't too much atmosphere but more 'cause the venue was huge + spread out rather than the party lacking.

Kalamunda Wet'n'Wild Water Park, Kalamunda was the venue for this 6pm till 11pm all ages event. The Pickering Brooke Sports Centre was the after party.

[ Summer Breeze ]
-== Summer Breeze : [Sat 16th Mar 02] ==-

Courtyard DJ's :- Neurotic, Weavy, PeeWee Ferris (Syd), Pace vs Fuxxy, Dair, Freestyle, Leroy vs Versetyle, Elysium vs Resistance (Sinistah/Frantik etc).
MainRoom DJ's :- DJ Presha (NZ), Greg Packer, Muller, Dan Lucas vs Frantik.
MC's :- Assassin, J Rippa, Pete, Rufkut, X-Sessiv.

Presented by MFI, Ruff Knite and Ill Behaviour, this event featured Sydney's PeeWee Ferris "known as Oz's No.1, he has been instrumental in the Oz and International Dance scene for over fifteen years. He has a weekly residency at 'Home' in Sydney and monthly ones in Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. He headlines all major Australian Dance Tours, the Big Day Out, Gatecrasher, Slinky etc every year".
DJ Presha "has been a major player in the N.Zealand Drum'n'Bass scene for the past six years. He has also conquered international crowds in Miami and the UK for Metalheadz + Movement as well as Singapore and across Oz. He's responsible for 'Breaks' and 'Glide' two of NZealand's biggest D'n'B nights. He also runs a label called 'Subtronix'."
We got there just after 1am and the place was rather packed (both courtyards and inner main room). I think its fair to say this event had a lot more potential on the night I think than people gave it. Plenty of times when the MC's were calling for a crowd response it was flat or not very forthcoming...shame. Yet the music was excellent, with some great, solid sets played and most people I spoke to were having a good time - just not maybe always showing it? I dunno. The Ill Behaviour nutcases kept the crowd entertained all night with BMX/skate ramp demos and assorted 'I-don't-care-if-I-live-or-die' stunts - cool. How one of them got on the roof of the venue in the morning I don't know! The setup looked good, although the sound/lights outside did cut out once or twice for unknown reasons, ah well. One downer was the theft of X-Sessiv's MiniDisc Player (see hot news page) about this please.

"System 6 is back! The Australia wide phenomenon comes to Perth once again, as we reboot with its biggest line-up to date. Expect nothing but the best and just that little bit more, as we envelop you with a surreal fantasy world of light's, music and energy, to tantalize your senses and take you beyond reality…
Over the last year XS Productions has entrenched itself as one of the leaders of high-energy dance parties in Perth. Continuously bringing you the highest calibre DJ's + artists, as we strive towards a better raving future. We cordially invite you to join us on the 23rd of March to witness what we envisage to be a turning point in the Perth dance scene. Remember you can't beat the System!".
Kevin Energy (UK) - At the modest age of 21, he has accomplished far more for his age than any other person in the UK dance industry. Kevin has been Djing and producing professionally for more than 5 years now. He has had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the UK and the world. His exploits include playing at the legendary Slammin Vinyl, Raindance, Pendragon and Club Labyrinth among many other events. Kevin was also heavily involved with London's biggest pirate radio station - Dream FM. To compliment his remarkable DJ skills he has extended his involvement with dance music through his own labels - Dynamix + Nu Energy Recordings, incorporating the latest Hard Trance, NRG + Freeform sounds. He has produced many killer tunes over time, but some of his most identifiable tracks are In Deep Trouble, Elevate your mind and the Amazing D Bass on Honey Pot Recordings. Don't miss this man in action!
Odyssey (Adelaide) - The man responsible for many of Adelaide's biggest parties, including System 6, Enchanted Forest and They Came from Mars. A DJ for 7 years, Odyssey has gradually climbed to the top of the Hard House/ Rave scene in Adelaide and looks set to take Australia by storm. Originally playing Hardcore and other UK based rave sounds, he soon grew out of that style and looked for something with a little more bite. Through his own Record shop, Ravin Mad Records, He discovered the sounds that were taking the UK underground scene's by storm, Hard trance /Acid Trance and Hard house. Now he dedicates his turntable time playing the freshest Hard House, NRG and Hard Trance. Influenced by international dj's such as Chris liberator, Nick Sentience, Karim and the Tinrib crew, he has rapidly formed a strong following in his hometown playing every major event and club night in Adelaide this year. Fresh from a tour of the UK, he intends to rip the dance floor apart, Captain Oddy style.
Mark 7 (Adelaide) - Hailing from Adelaide, the DJ Mark 7 is regarded as one of the best Drum 'n' Bass DJ's in the country. His style is undeniably fluent, with a very upfront tune selection and smooth mixing that will tantalise all Junglist minds. His skills have earnt him residencies at several South Australian clubs including Rush, Inbound and Labyrinth. As well as spots at all of Adelaide's big parties including System 6, Stardust + Enchanted. Some of the highlights for Mark include winning the Triple J mixup competition in 1998 where here played on national radio, this was his first ever gig in public! He later returned in 1999 to mix it up on Triple J once again. Not long after in 2000, Mark 7 was nominated for 'Best new DJ' in the Lemon Ruski National Dance Music Awards [held in Sydney] as well as the SA Dance Music Awards. In 2002 expect big things from this man, as he pushes forward with his own 5158 record label. He is definitely a DJ going places and one to watch.

Well this was a good fun night...ok there weren't thousands there but the venue was pretty busy all night. Some quite hard music played here during the evening...people commenting to me a nice change it was too. The main room definately had it, the 2nd arena a bit lacking in sound quality and probably too bright, but I think everyone had enjoyed themselves. Nice to see Kevin Energy finally...good DJ and what a nice bloke too...as was Mark 7 - both also played nice solid sets which worked well with the crowd. Club Justice, Joondalup was the venue for this 18+ event.

This night had been canned as had Friday (to become Top40!!) due to people's recent lack of support (although there had been events each weekend oh well management won't support it) - so it was good that the most people for ages got down there for a HUGE night for one last time. Ample sunshine - Easter has never been so good. After last years fantastic debut...the 'Delirious' Summer Festival is set to explode on Easter Sunday. In what is going to be an all day electronic musicfest. If last years event was anything to go by this could well be the event of the year".

Belvoir Ampitheatre - 1177 Great Northern Highway, Upper Swan was the venue for this midday to 11pm 18+ event. We just didn't get there...had too big a weekend by then and it was just a case of too sunny / too far / too tired etc. Those I spoke to who went though, said some arenas were very empty at times...maybe people just doing the wander round, but then apparently numbers were down against those expected. Perhaps numbers were affected by the recent 'Two Tribes' where punters were treated to a huge event for a lot less cost...I dunno. Anyhow some good sets (live/DJz) played but could've been better was the feedback I got.

Choice was on next and dropped a smooth set of Trance/Techno as come to be expected of this man, I opted for a harder set of Acid/Techno/Hard Trance which seemed to work well to bring em back up, to be followed by Greg Packer and Concept who rounded up the night with some Tech-step/nice technical-style rollers etc. Shame it wasn't rammed as this was a good night put on very cheaply for the Perth crew...ah well, nice one + big up the eFusion crew for this event.

Playing strictly Breaks/Jungle and Ragga for this oldskool Reprazent". This was a wicked night, they're always very busy...and this one was no exception, which was good as lately locals-only events have only just started getting bigger after so many internationals coming thru town. We got there around midnight and the place was rammed and had a sizeable queque. A lot of old faces were out in force again, which is always nice. Also good that everyone seemed to go for more of an 'underground' feel in their tune selection which was good rather than just a whole night of much-repeated classics. Tha boyz on the mic ripped it up finestyle too...look for review/photos in ATM mag as well.

When their self-titled debut arrived it unapologetically trashed the rulebook resulting in one of the most genuinely genre-bending dance albums of the nineties. With injections of jazz, classical, blues, techno and hip hop, Lamb fused smooth curves with angular edges, or heartbreak blues with cold-hearted electronica, giving it an intensely personal, highly emotional charge. The sweetly stuttering 'Cottonwool' and divine 'Gorecki' singles showed that Lamb could do much more than just make feet move quicker - it could make hearts beat faster, too".
Metropolis City, Northbridge was the venue for this rather expensive ($50) 8pm-midnight 18+ event. Anyone?

Presented by Drum Club + Raggabone. "This was the biggest local drum and bass event in 2001 with over 800 people cramming into the Taipan main arena. This year we have opened another room (Drum club space) featuring one of the UK's most famous oldskool jocks - DJ Slipmatt. This year is set to be even bigger with plenty of suprises in stall. The First 50 people through the door on the night will receive a free mixed CD by DJ Frantik, including many of his latest material scheduled for an album release, on his label 'Hard Afro Recordings' later in 2002. Come down and support our local HOMEGROWN talent this Anzac eve....and YES it is a public holiday the next day, so plenty of time to recover!".
Well it was always likely to be a HUGE night this and deservedly so - although the crowd was slow coming in...a lot of people coming in around midnight, bit silly when it was shutting around 3:30am! The place was absolutely rammed...I can dance on the spot but event that was often not enough as people were constantly trying to squeeze past...phew. Slipmatt played probably his best set since '97, raning from 1991 rave classics, onto a few unusual-choice Trance classics (Eye Q's Cafe Del Mar) to 1996 HaRdCoRe...with (thank god) a lot more underground tracks than before (old '92 classic Sykosis 451 etc) and some interesting 2-step / break remixes of Prodigy/SL2 etc trax!
The whole night was taped - may be released at a later time. Drum Club/Taipan Room, Northbridge was the venue for this excellent very popular 18+ event.

Rider is one of the most sorted internationals around and you can always expect to hear the latest dubs....many of which we still have not had released (or may ever have) even since his last visit. Definitely one for the trainspotters!"
Always a big night, always worth checking out...but third time lucky I think, the last two times he hasn't quite been up to his usual (high) standards and thank goodness 'Tha Rider' did not disappoint, dropping some very hard stuff and the place was going totally nuts as usual.
Drum Club, Northbridge was the venue for this wicked 10pm-late 18+ event.
One thing to note - this was the Tenth year since his first visit in Nov '92!

eFusion presented this very special all local event. "Western Australian DJs will take centre stage in the first multi-room event of its kind to showcase the very best of our talent behind the decks. The DJs of Perth consistantly give world-class performances at all the events we all love so much and it's their turn to headline a festival representing 4 genres of dance music across 4 rooms. It is often said that Perth DJs are either as good as or better than their visiting counterparts and Moo! Fest is all about bringing some of the best together for one night of pure homegrown talent. The format of the event will be no less than that afforded to large super-club tours however it is distinctly different in that around 35 local DJs will have centre stage for the entirety of the event.
Moo! Fest will be more than another club night with a very important focus on FUN - an event that is much more than DJing and dancing alone. MoO!Fest will be a true night time festival with themed rooms, fancy dress costumed staff, lounge areas, fun drink machines, give-aways and much more".

NB "We are sorry to announce that we have had to make 2 changes to the lineup in the Techno Arena due to circumstances out of our control. As many of you would be aware we advertised MoO! Fest 2002 by way of an aeroplane ad at Delirious on Easter Sunday. Immediately following this two of our DJs withdrew (Troy and Warren 10) stating that they can never play for eFusion again. We were sorry to hear this news as both of these guys have not only played amazing sets at eFusion events before but are two DJs that really deserved sets at MoO!Fest".

Go Mad over "4 Rooms ... 38 DJ's ... 9 Hrs".
There was loads of interest in the cow (her official name is 'Daisy-Bell' for all those interested) and this party attracted a (deservedly-so) big crowd. The Drum'n'Bass and Globe mainroom were packed all night, some of the other rooms up+down as people went for a look around the event. Big crossection of crowd types as well, anyone from gothics to ravers, clubbers to mods...ah well who cares it was a great night and I think different for people to experience the local quality all night and not the 'hype' of internationals on at 'such+such time' and the standard 'lets-go-home' scenario. Top marks to the eFusion crew for a great night and giving people a glimpse at people they'd perhaps not normally get to hear.

-== Stakka + Skynet : [Fri 2nd Aug 02] ==-

DJ's :- Skynet (UK), Muller vs Rufkut, Viper, Greg Packer, Frantik vs Mk1.
MC's :- Rufkut, Assassin, X-Sessiv.

"Brighton based duo Stakka & Skynet's history goes back to the early days, both as DJ's and producers from the end of the acid house era through until today. They are behind the labels 'Underfire', 'Audio Blueprint' and 'Zero G Recordings', which have been in operation since 1997. The duo created the newer 'Underfire' imprint to showcase the physical side of Drum'n'Bass. Releasing a number of singles before dropping the "Blazin" LP in 1999. The Underfire philosophy was (and still is) all about building hard and fast beats drenched in infectiously, wobbly basslines. In Underfire mode, Stakka and Skynet are able to decimate dance floors effortlessly with no signs of easing up anytime soon".
Unfortunately, Stakka (UK), did not make the trip to Oz, due to a major ear infection. Skynet confirmed that they normally play back to back from the same DJ box, so he had all the tunes with him so be rest assured the night was still always gonna be huge. From all accounts across Australia his set was blinding and not to be missed. This was to be the duos first trip to Perth and a night not to be missed (unfortunately I did dammit) - but least we got half of them and the tunes! Drum Club was the venue for this 18+ event. Anyone ?

[ Free Bears ]
-== Free The Bears : [Sat 3rd Aug 02] ==-

DJ's :- Brian, Sinky, Max Landy (fresh back from Canada).

This special benefit event is presented by eFusion. "Dancing bears are seen frequently at major tourist centres in India, particularly Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. This so-called ‘tradition’ is supported primarily by tourists, who delight in seeing these bears ‘dance’, often up to 12 hours a day, on their hind paws. John Joseph, WSPA's Regional Manager for Asia emphasise that travellers must be informed of the torturous process involved in training these bears and refuse to provide money to the Kalander gypsies. This training involves the painful piercing of the sensitive snout in order to thread ropes and chain through the perforation, the removal of teeth without an anaesthetic, and the placement of tender paws on hot plates in order to train the bear to 'dance'. When travelling in these countries we urge you to consider what entertainment you support and the hidden suffering that must be endured to provide it.
It is estimated that each of these bears are initially brought for 8000 rupees, and can bring in up to 3000 rupees per month for the owner, representing an excellent investment. As a result of such treatment these bears, which are capable of living up to 25 years in the wild, rarely live to be 10 once captured, succumbing to infection, malnutrition and stress. It is sobering to think that these bears represent the 20-30% who survived the first few months, the other 70-80% succumbing to malnutrition, stress and gastro-intestinal illness before the brutal training could even commence.".
Music for the night was a silky smooth trip through the House genre, GlassHouse was the venue for this worthy free entry/coin donation 18+ event.

Come and join us as we smash up the turntables once again, with an awesome lineup of local and international Dektechnicians, who will provide the sonic vibrations to smash your senses.
LUNA C a.k.a. CRU-L-T – KFA / Kniteforce Records / Remix Records (UK) :- This man is a production machine and has a list of guises too long to list. His most well known work has been under the names Luna C, Cru-l-t + as a member of the chart-topping group Smart’es.
Chances are he’s responsible for one of your all-time favourite HaRdCoRe tunes, such as huge anthems like '6 Days', 'Take Me Away', 'Piano Progression' and the 1992 smash hit 'Sesame’s Treet'.
Kniteforce Records was one of the most popular and innovative record labels from 1992–1997 when it closed its doors. However Kniteforce Records has been re-born under the name KFA records, they have worked hard to push the HaRdCoRe scene forwards in the right direction and have now notched up their seventh release.
This guy is as good on the turntables as he is on production, those who witnessed his set last time he was here will testify to that. Absolutely mind blowing! The future is now...the future is KFA!!"

This event is presented by System 6 and Cybergroove featuring a theme night : UK Superclub 'Storm' and the styles of Hard Dance/Hard Trance/Hard House/NRG/Techno + Tech Trance.
"Nick Lunn (UK) - one of the biggest name DJs in the hard dance music scene playing throughout the world including S.Africa, Ibiza, Holland, Switzerland, N.Zealand, Japan and Oz. His UK residencies include Storm, as well as regular guest slots at clubs such as 'Space'@Temple Theatre, Dublin + 'Passion'@Emporium, Coalville. His resume also includes spots at Helter Skelter, Riot, Love Parade & Frantic. He is renowned for his unique DJ sound and is generally regarded as the most 'underground' of the Storm residents, rulin’ the dance floor with his deep and dirty beats of Nu-Techno and Hard Trance sets. He has also turned his hand to production with releases through Nukleuz, Pump + Mohawk Records. Expect two sets from him at Storm, one of uplifting Hard Trance, the other of driving Techno tinged with trancy elements.
Kultcha (Canada) :- Hailing from Vancouver, he is regarded as one of Canada's pioneers for the UK Hard House and Nu-NRG sound. He has established a solid reputation for long, flowing mixes and his ability to read a crowd. In Nov 1999 he won the prestigious 'DJ Of The Month' award from Tribe Magazine, based out of Toronto. This included the release of a special mix tape distributed nationally along with an interview in that issue. He has toured extensively across North America playing events large + small. Internationally he has played twice in London, (including peak time slots at Brixton Academy and the Fridge) and will soon be playing in Lima, Peru as well as here. Kultcha runs his own record label - Wasa-B Records, which is pressed and distributed in London, UK, but run from Vancouver, Canada. Internationally acclaimed Artists such as OD404, Base Graffiti, Eufex, Karim, Rubec, DJ Kristian, and Banga Matt all have releases on his label. Prepare yourself for the sonic onslaught of this man.
Paul Holden (Sydney) :- One of the longest standing and most popular DJ’s on the Sydney circuit, Paul began working as a DJ in 1980 and within a few months, secured two major residences at ‘The Exchange Hotel’ and ‘Patches’ (now DCM). From there, Paul went on to play at almost every club + rave worth its place in Sydney’s dance history, spinning infectious anthems, always pleasing the punters with his trademark sound. He has seen the evolution of dance and has experienced it first hand, watched as fads come and go, experimented with new genres and then embraced the scene by becoming involved, on various levels, as promoter and producer. In the year 2002, twenty-two years after his first gig, Paul Holden continues to blast dance floors across the country contributing to an industry and scene that acknowledges him as a modern day entertainer!
Odyssey (Adelaide) :- The man responsible for many of Adelaide’s biggest parties, including System 6, Enchanted Forest and They Came from Mars. A DJ for 7yrs, he's gradually climbed to the top of the Hard House/ Rave scene in Adelaide and looks set to take Oz by storm. Originally playing Hardcore and other UK based Rave sounds, he soon grew out of that style and looked for something with a little more bite. Through his own Record shop, Ravin Mad Records, He discovered the sounds that were taking the UK underground scene's by storm, Hard trance /Acid Trance + Hard house - influenced by international DJ's such as Chris liberator, Nick Sentience, Karim etc, he has rapidly formed a strong following in his hometown playing every major event and club night in Adelaide this year.
Devious (Adelaide) :- Regarded as Adelaide’s best Techno DJ, he has rocked Adelaide’s biggest rave's, being renowned throughout Adelaide for his hard, pounding, uniquely hypnotic and powerful style, he has a rare combination of strong tracks that consist of hard, slamming & funky techno. His mixing ability and love for the scene have earned him a large Adelaide following with massive dance floor appeal. With his determination and motivation, Devious runs one of Adelaide's most progressive production companies, Paradigm productions (recently taking out Promoter of the Year Adelaide Dance Music Awards)".

DJ's :- Andy C (UK), Greg Packer, Concept, Diamond D, Mike L.
MC's :- MC GQ (UK), J.Rippa, Assassin, X-sessiv.

Loaded Dice presented this very eagerly-awaited Drum'n'Bass event...and the massive crowd (apparently 1200+) was a good example of just how much perth had been hanging to see this man..a HUGE line awaited those trying to get into the Globe...I personally went home for a couple of hours for some TV + a cuppa and then came back to see the last half an hour of his set. A few mates with tickets were in the queque for ages and a lot of people were complaining about the time taken to get in. Also the crap weather didn't help moods either...freezing outside - boiling inside. This was the authorities being very heavy handed not Loaded Dice so please give them a break. Fair to say Andy C played what for him was a fairly 'safe set' - immaculate in the mix but lots of cliche tracks...but then he did mix that fast in/out another took its place before you could turn around to complain about a tune. Rather similar to some of his recent mix CD releases and a lot of Bad Company-style trax in there...still glad to see him in the flesh.
Must admit ain't seen the Globe that packed for ages...great night well done lads.
Andy C (UK) - Owner/Producer on the excellent Ram Records (very apt considering how rammed it was), celebrating 10yrs 1992-2002...a label spanning the early breakbeat/rave thru Jungle to Drum'n'Bass...quality not quantity in releases. He has played for just about every decent night and Rave Promoter in the UK and around the world and finally made it to Perth for his first visit.
MC GQ (UK) a great talent, has been one of the UK scene's Mic stalwarts for years and is also the head honcho for Emcee Recordings...a well wicked fusion-style hard Drum'n'Bass label.

The Globe Nightclub, Murray St was the venue for this rammed 10pm-6am 18+ event.

Activate + Mellen Events present this big Trance/Club/House night for the theme of UK SuperClub 'God's Kitchen'.
"Armin Van Buuren (Holland) - He is one of the biggest names in trance today. At the age of 14 he bough his first sampler, confiscated his father’s synthesizer and started to make music. At this moment he has played in more than 25 different countries and according to his fans he’s known for his intelligent but uplifting music. Often you can find him on the main stage at big summer festivals. Recently he played a record-breaking nine-hour set for Dancetheater in the The Hague (Holland). In the UK you can see him perform regularly at Godskitchen, Passion, Gatecrasher, Slinky, Peach and Golden. With a string of productions and remix’s under his belt and with his new release SUNBURN flying up the charts all over the world expect a true hands in the air experience from the man Armin Van Buuren.

With a career spanning nearly twenty years, his unique character and impeccable talent have seen Fleming become the face of his Genre, producing numerous mix albums, artist singles, remix projects and now heading his own underground label; Joof Recordings. John 00 Fleming has become one of the front-runners in the worldwide club Scene. 2002 brings a new level of demand for one of the few DJ’s capable of filling clubs on a global level. From the studio, March 2002 welcomes another mix album called 'Future Sound of John Fleming' on Telstar, numerous planned releases for Joof Recordings, massive exposure in the UK and even greater success worldwide for one of the most talented and diligent DJs in dance music. John has also remixed 'I Luv America' the brand new single from our own Mark James. John is without doubt one of our most popular international guests.
Chris Fortier (USA) - With his current Mix Compilation, 'Bedrock: Compiled and Mixed' riding high in the dance compilation charts, it’s come to pass that everyone is just now finding out how good Chris Fortier really is. Critically acclaimed by the worldwide dance press and more importantly the clubbing fraternity, it has received stunning reviews and endless chat board discussions on its place as one of the year’s top releases. Even with being constantly on tour, Chris’ production career has never been healthier with the delicious, 'Loosing Wait', his first solo production, which has met with a warm response form all the likely sources including Nick Warren, Satoshi Tomiie, and Sasha; who hasn’t stopped playing it on the 'Delta Heavy US' tour. As one of the pioneers of the current US progressive DJs, Chris was one of the first to travel the US and the world wide. Chris takes great pride in his role at Balance Promote Group, as founder of the internationally renowned Balance Record Pool, it has become the premier choice for labels to promote their product in the States.".

Kevin Energy (UK), Sharkey (UK), Freestyle (5-6am), Weavy, Pace vs Versetyle, Flaunt vs Lumberjack, Church Decorator vs Tony Montana.
MC's :- MC Sharkey (UK) Assassin, Pete.

XS Productions presented this special event, featuring one of the biggest international lineups at an all ages event in Perth for ages.
Sharkey (UK) - Bonkers Australian Tour : One of the most renowned and successful Hardcore artists in the world today. He has been plying his trade since '92 originally starting out as an MC he managed to climb his way to the top, to become the best Hardcore MC in the UK. Amazing crowds across the country at all the big events including Dreamscape, United Dance, Vibelite & Rezerection. '95 saw him teaming up with Hixxy collaborating in the Studio to create his first release, 'Toy Town' which was an overwhelming success and lead to him turning his hand to DJ'ing and Producing more and more. In '96 Sharkey was signed by React Records where he released the well-known Bonkers series which sold over quarter of a million copies, in turn he also produced his own album Hardlife. The Hardlife album helped him to define his style of hardcore, which he is still producing today.
Today Sharkey performs all over the UK and abroad, he is the in house engineer for Nu Energy and performs live under the name Safe-N-Sound with studio associate K-Complex. React recently signed Sharkey to another 4-year album deal for a whole new Bonkers series, in which the first album was released in April 2002.

Kevin Energy (UK) - Nu Energy Collective : The brains and force behind The Nu Energy Label, Kevin has been Djing and producing professionally now for 7 years. At the modest age of 23 he has accomplished far more for his age then any other person in the U.K. industry. His first DJ sets were for the famous Club Labyrinth, amazingly when he was just 15 years old! His regular Sat night slot on Dream FM gave Kevin exposure to the whole of London, which lead to many bookings with reputable promoters in the area. In late 1996 he produced his first tune which was in the hardcore style of the time. This track 'Hardcore Fever' became tune of the year. At the end of '98 Kev started experimenting with his production making Hard Trance orientated music along with his Freeform. The success of this lead to him being snapped up by other promoters including Tectonic, Mesmerise & Pendragon. As Kevin's talent for this music grew he decided to start another label called Dynamix, the first few releases on this were a massive success, promoters began booking him on the strength of his production work alone and remix work started to fly in. Now Dynamix are up to their 12th release and the sound has exploded leading to plenty of future bookings in the UK and abroad with promoters like Omnipotence, Fevah, Country Club, Club 414, React music tour nights, and Atomic Energy to name a few!!! At present Kevin is famous for combining the power of Hardcore/Freeform with the magic and music of Hard Trance. His sets never fail to impress gaining top reviews for the majority of the events he has played at. Nu Energy and Dynamix are still going strong and pioneering each scene they are involved with and Kevin's production work has even recently been snapped up by Billy Bunters Honey Pot Recordings.

Paul Glazby (UK) - Vicious Circle One From The Hard Box Tour : began his career on the underground scene in Sheffield back in '98. These days he is recognised more on an international level playing regularly at clubs such as Frantic, Sundissential, Storm, Insomniacz and Sinergy along with his International gigs in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Japan and Finland with his unmistakable brand of Hard Dance. Throughout 2001, he spent time developing his record label Vicious Circle Recordings. The label has subsequently positioned itself as one of the top Hard Dance labels and is set to gain even more ground in '02. Paul's production career moved up a gear in 2001, tracks like 'Beautiful' and 'Locked Up' propelled Paul to the forefront of the Hard Dance scene, gaining recognition from the scene's elite along the way.
As well as his ground breaking original tracks, Paul was also in demand as a remixer, working for labels like Nukleuz, Kaktai, Tripoli Trax and Virgin's :VC: which is the label for which he did the now legendary remix of 'Dreams' which reached No. 30 in the national charts and received widespread play on Radio 1 and Kiss FM.

"The invasion has begun! Martians are here to destroy us, assault after assault, wave after wave, they intend to melt the dancefloor and vaporise us all into oblivion. Only you can stop them by turning out in force to defend our city and repel the evil force with the loving vibe and energy created from dancing. Extra Terrestrial DJ's Kevin Energy & Paul Glazby provide the main Martian attack force, commanded by MC Sharkey the general on the Mic, who will also join them in their attack from the Turntables. We will attempt to stop them in their tracks and show the invading force what Perth ravers are made of. Come join us as we make our stand on the 30th of Nov and be proud to be ravers".
Massive Lights & Sound by Lux Entertainment Technology, CD giveaways, shirts + stickers, Psychedelic décor by Melbourne's 'Every Picture Tells a Story Crew' + chillout plus lots more! Just a side note with this one, The Perth gig was Sharkey's 2nd last MC Performance ever, the last one being in Adelaide - so a very special appearance indeed!

Paul Glazby (UK) did not make this gig due to flight problems unfortunately so the night was filled up with some longer sets by all DJs. Swan Barracks, Northbridge was the venue for this 9pm-late all ages event (15+ recommendation).

DJ's :- E-Z Rollers (UK), DJ Friction (UK) & MC Stamina, El Hornet, Merlin, Gusto.
MC's :- Interjecta, X-sessiv.

Drum CLub presents this special Drum'n'Bass night, featuring the much-awaited visit of UK D'n'B stars...Ez Rollers - In 1990, Alex joined forces with [producer, Danny Demierre (who would later become Flytronix) to form Hyper-On-Experience. This was the first wave of proper signings to Moving Shadow and that produced a number of old skool classics like 'H E Anthem' and 'Lord of the Null Lines.' A little while later, Jay got back into production and put his vast record collection together with another friend, Richie, to become another classic Shadow act, JMJ & Richie, responsible for such cult classics as 'Case Closed,' and 'Free La Funk,' and 'Montana'. Despite these other projects, Jay and Alex planned to work together and in 1995 formed the E-Z Rollers and released their first single. Following this they complied 'Storm From The East.' For their own production work, they decided on a vocal approach and enlisted Kelly Richards. Their first long player together, 'Dimensions of Sound' arrived in 1996. Its gentle, jazz influenced hooks, solid moving beats and melodic keys, were wonderfully enhanced by Kelly's smooth vocals. Cuts like 'Rolled Into One' and 'Dropping Science Part 2' helped make the album the classic it is today. They unleashed their second album, 'Weekend World' in 1998. It was an album that hit the spot, focusing more heavily on those impossible groovy basslines. Infectious singles like 'Tough At The Top' and the even bigger, 'Walk This Land' - a cut that got to an astonishing no 18 in the UK charts after being used for the British flick, 'Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels,' sent the E-Z Rollers popularity rocketing and prompted a re-release of the album in 1999.
Although the Rollers have undoubtedly been blessed with a midas touch in the studio, they have been careful to keep their feet well and truly on the ground. As for their gigs, Jay elaborates, 'We are a DJ and vocal outfit, with Alex and myself using three decks, alongside Kelly and MC Jakes. Jakes works really well with Kelly while Alex & I mix it up on the decks, so you get the full energy of a three deck set with live stuff going on too. It seems to go off wherever we play.'
DJ Friction - Already touted as the next Andy C and well respected by many of the top DnB artists and labels because of his quality DJing & production skills - The man they call FRICTION is set to unleash some serious dubplate pressure on the Perth massiv and stake his claim to a title that only goes to the exceptionally talented... DNB Arena's 'BEST NEWCOMER DJ' for 2002.
MC Stamina - The voice behind smash hit 'LK' and resident MC at legendary UK night, MOVEMENT. A vocalist of rare ability, his dexterous delivery combines a seamless flow with a truly soulful approach to music: whether it be singing, rapping ragga lyrics, firing out rhymes or displaying his natural instinct for engaging with the crowd, his skills are guaranteed to serve a groove. 'We like it, I like it, you like it too...' With these two helming the mission, this nights promises to shake the foundations.
Should be a big night...see you there!

    DJ's :- Paul "Brisk" Nineham (UK), Riki, Kenny L, Freestyle, Weavy, Roger Frisk.

    Church presents this special event featuring the UK Stimulant DJ's Paul 'Brisk' Nineham in his Hard House/Trance alter ego. "The Stimulant DJs have managed to maintain their respected and credible position, throughout the transitions of Hard House. Proving that the Stimulant sound is flexible with a significant and identifiable signature, through the evolution into what has now been deemed 'Hard Dance' taking elements of hard house, trance and other varying degrees from the harder edge of dance. Their sound is highly esteemed throughout the scene for the top quality production, and intelligent arrangements, warranting an inimitable blend of percussion, vocals, melodies and driving bass lines. Paul ensures he sustains the unique qualities in his Stimulant production that have guaranteed his success in the Hardcore market. Ensuring a full impact, uplifting NRG and power, persisting with the main intention and desire of getting the clubbers dancing and injecting fun on the dance floor, with a massive dose of highly addictive and intoxicating Stimulant beats. Stimulant Records now boasts a catalogue of over 25 releases, all of which appear regularly in the charts of many DJs across the planet. The label has grown and developed over the last 3 years to become one of the most successful Hard Dance labels, maintaining consistency and an ethos of quality not quantity. Just as with the hardcore edge, Paul's work under the Stimulant title has earned it places on a range of top compilations from Lisa Lashes's Hardhouse Euphoria, Nukleuz Hardhouse Anthems, Yoji Biomehanika's NRG Essence II, as well as various other Tidy Trax mix albums".

    This year the Rewind 2002 event was to be recorded straight onto DVD format - that includes AUDIO & VISUAL for a special release after the event - unfortunately that got stuffed (AGAIN) by people who claim to know multimedia but prove themselves wrong (AGAIN) . Anyhow a wicked night started off at Metros then at the end of my set was moved to the Drum Club @ 2:30am for Greg Packer's set followed by Steve Mason vs Darren Briais - which produced the (now infamous + legendary) 'We're going deep Hutcho, We're digging right down man' quote. DJ's :- DJ Heiko Laux (Germany), Alexander Kowalski (Germany), Hamishm00 (Looney Choons), Mike Bishop (Looney Choons), Declan (Raw Funk / Full Frequency), Shamus (Auditory Spiral), David O’Reilly (the Mechanic!), James A + Hau + Ben M + Marc Allen (Deep City Crew), Ben Businovski (live Predicaments / Toneman), Dan Stinton (Raw Funk / Full Frequency), Jason Burton (Losounds), Dave Clark (with the Spark), Nic Tan (Koo Day Tah), Dr Gonzo (Tourist Depot), Luke Notley (IntheMix.com.au).

    Looney Choons & FARQuadrant are proud to present this special Techno event...featuring DJ Heiko Laux (Kanzleramt Records, Germany) - His name might be a little difficult to pronounce, but it’s not difficult to see the impression this man has had on techno and electronic music. His labels, Kanzleramt, and its subsidiary labels UTurn and K20, are stunning. Founded in 1994, Kanzleramt prestigiously pumps out tracks from Heiko as well as artists such as Johannes Heil, Christian Morgenstern, DJ Slip, Diego, Anthony Rother and Alex Kowalski. Music is Heiko's language, and through his language he speaks of jazz, soul and the power of drums. An ingenious and flawless producer, a devastating DJ, and a celebrated remixer, Heiko will no doubt put fire into the engine to make Boxing Day 2002 one to remember.

    Alexander Kowalski (LIVE) (Kanzleramt/Tresor/Konsequent/BPitch/Theory/unGleich Records)- Berlin’s Kowalski, at 23, is motoring his way up by raw energetic power to the upper echelons of the techno stratosphere. His first tracks featured on the Kanzleramt label were actually unaltered live recordings. Unintended for official release, these tracks ended up being celebrated Kanzleramt releases anyway. Kowalski is responsible for various projects like the DisX3 (Tresor, Konsequent), Mr.Discoteque (BCC), together with Stassy (Sender Berlin) as Double X (unGleich, Kanzleramt) and last but not least under his real name Alexander Kowalski exclusively for Kanzleramt. Kowalski is the fresh new face and sound of Kanzleramt. His music is deep, housey and emotional and his live show will be nothing short of sensational.

    Ashley Casselle (UK) : Producing under his 'Ashtrax' moniker, who can forget his 'Heklsinki' tune. If you're looking for a beat thats block-rocking and genre-busting, which steers clear of conformity, then check this man out...after all good music comes along too sledom to warant missing out.
    Christian Smith (Sweden) : His sets are built around a diverse mix of tribal funky Techno and tough House sounds, put together with tight turntable mixing and creative scratching. He has built up a loyal fanbase in Perth after several visits, including his popular set to bring in the new millenium '99/2000 so his return is eagerly anticipated.
    Shimon (UK) : One of the 3 masters behind Ram Records. From his own early releases on RAM such as 'Predator' and tracks such as 'Quest', 'Recharge' and the 'Terrorform EP' with Andy C and 98's long-player 'Sound in Motion'. He has established himself as one of the 'big guns', playing at all the RAM nights up + down England on most weekends and throughout Europe, the US and Asia. Last time he was here (Digital 2001), Perth didn't get to really appreciate the talent he has (thanks to a crap sound system etc).
